Treasurer Update: November 24

November was scheduled to be another busy month for Nuneaton Town, with the rearranged trip to Bilston adding to away games at the start and end of the month, and two league home games sandwiched in between and a final home game on the last day of the month against Bilston Town. However, the weather would put paid to the clash with Coton Green, and another cup game this time a BCFA Midweek Floodlight Challenge Cup tie again Paget Rangers at home meant things diverted from the plan somewhat. Expectations for this month were initially for the club to break-even, and though all home games were well attended, several one-off costs meant a small loss of £470 was recorded. Season to date, the profit stands at a healthy £42,593. This itself is still a fantastic result, bearing in mind our pre-season plan forecast us to be using the reserves of season ticket and sponsorship money during the winter months at rate of £2,000 a month.

The average league attendance across the three league home games was a fantastic 460 and 236 fans attended the cup game v Paget, which saw Town progress to a semi-final in our first season since reforming, adding £694 into the “Back to Nuneaton” fund from this game alone.

The next two topics are a recurring theme. Firstly, I’d like to thank again all those who have signed up to the 200 Club, run by the Nuneaton Town Supporters’ Co-operative. November saw a landmark where the participants rose above the 200-mark for the first time in its history. If this level is maintained, the Supporters’ Co-operative will be able to increase its monthly contribution (currently £1,000), towards to club operating costs. If this happens, any surplus will be added to the “Back to Nuneaton” fund. If you needed another reason to play, there’s a great one!

I’d also like to remind supporters to join the Nuneaton Town Supporters’ Co-operative as a member. The Co-operative owns 50% of the club, so membership is a great way to help shape the club’s future as part owner of a football club! It is also a pathway to getting directly involved in the running of the club, right up to becoming a director of Nuneaton Town Football Club.

Again, merchandise sales continue to exceed all expectations, over £3,000 sold during the month, including an incredible £1,300 of merchandise sold in the space of two hours before the Coventry Copsewood game, and over £500 sold during from our stall at the Nuneaton Christmas lights switch on the 28th of November. This takes the total merchandise sales for the season so far over £16,000.

In terms of expenditure, we incurred £9,728 in direct costs during October, which covered:

  • FIVE playing weeks players and coaches remuneration.

  • Matchday ground hire

  • Training facility hire

  • Physio fees and equipment costs

  • Additional playing kit

  • Matchday security and safety costs

  • Matchday volunteer Equipment costs

  • Post-match catering costs (required to be provided be the league)

  • Merchandise cost of sales

  • Programme printing and matchday fundraising ticket costs.

  • Player registration costs (season to date)

We also incurred administrative expenses of £185, which include items such as:

  • Website hosting costs

  • The subscription to the club’s finance system (Xero)

  • Payroll processing costs

  • Printing and stationary costs

  • Transaction fees charged by payment platforms (Sum-up & Stripe)

One final topic I would like to highlight is the sterling efforts of Kevin Brown, John Hobson and Andy Pace in their work of selling donated items. Kev’s own words put into perspective the scale of the effort:

With the help of John Hobson & Andy Pace I estimate sales of donated memorabilia has easily raised over £1750 and this does not include Andy Pace's sale of programmes on matchdays. Recent sales of 15 items alone have raised £945, in the early days a local collector paid me over £300 cash for several old programmes. Over the course of the season, we should see around £2,500 to £3,000 raised for the club.

Thanks for this should go to the countless people that have donated items for us to sell and many people purchasing items have very generously paid more than the asking price because they want to help the club.

All in all an unexpected source of income from donated items, but much more importantly it demonstrates that the whole fanbase are playing their part to meet the financial costs of the club.

I’m sure everyone will join me in thanking Kev, John, Andy, From Town to Town, and everyone who has both donated and bought these items, which have made a huge contribution to re-building the club.

What to expect in December

December is a tough one to call, with only two home league games and one home cup game, plus three away games including the much-anticipated Nuneaton derby on Boxing Day, we anticipate a loss of around £800. However, with December being a four-game week month (at last), playing costs will be less than previous months, so decent turn outs, in particular on the game on the 28th December against Lutterworth, may push us towards a break even situation.

How can I help?

There are several ways that fans and local businesses can help support the club:

  • Support the club by attending games and encouraging others to do so!

  • While at games, please consider purchasing a 50/50 draw or Golden Goal ticket

  • Join the NTSC 200 club. This is a great way of supporting the club financially, whilst give you the chance to win monthly cash prizes.

  • Join the Nuneaton Town Supporters Co-operative. Not only will you be helping the Co-op fulfil its duty as part owner of the club, but you will also be able to hold the Co-op board members and club officials appointed by the Co-op to account (including me). Look out for further information about the new season membership drive and further information on how you can get involved in both the Co-op and the club.

  • If you are a local business and would like to become a sponsor, reach out to commercial@nuneatontownfc.co.uk to discuss taking one of our great packages.
