Report and Reaction: Boldmere St Michael’s friendly

MATCH REPORT:
Starting XI: Gilbert, Edwards, Recci, Daly, Whitehouse (Jack), Curtlin, Mullan, Currithers, Trialist, Pegg, Whitehouse (Josh).

Substitutes: Bache, Birta, Martin, Somel, Trialist, Williams.

The first half saw both sides largely opting to get the ball down and play on the 4G surface. Early pressure from Boldmere resulted in a series of corners which were well defended and headed away from danger. In the 8th minute, Currithers found Edwards with space to run at the Boldmere defence and he duly obliged but it resulted in the cross being slightly overhit for Pegg to get a shot away. The 11th minute saw Boldmere create a fine passing move in midfield which ended up in the box and forced Gilbert into making a smart save for a corner. On 19 minutes, Mullan won the ball in midfield and fed Josh Whitehouse into the box with a clear sight of goal, however he decided to try and pass to Pegg rather than shoot himself, and Boldmere managed to clear the danger. In the 39th minute, a Town trialist chipped the ball through to Whitehouse again whose shot sailed over the bar.

Half time: 0-0

The second half saw a number of changes as Bache replaced Gilbert in goal, Birta replaced Curtlin, Romario Martin took Pegg's place up front and Dec Somel joined midfield in place of Josh Whitehouse. In the 68th minute a good chance was created for a Town trialist by Mullan. He released the trialist wide into the box with only the keeper to beat, but the Boldmere goalkeeper got down well to parry the ball away for a corner.

In the 67th minute the trialist was set free again, this time by Dec Somel who intercepted the ball in midfield. He then passed to Martin who flicked it onto the trialist but his shot from 20 yards out went over the bar. The first goal of the game came from Boldmere, as in the 78th minute a throw from Bache to Edwards caught him unaware and quick thinking from the Boldmere striker saw him receive the ball and slot home from out wide.

Eight minutes later Town were level after Martin won the ball just outside the box and managed to get it through to the trialist, his half volley rifled past the Boldmere keeper.
