Nuneaton Town will be hoping for some better weather this weekend as they take on Kirby Muxloe for the first time in their history.

Last week's game against Coton Green was called off due to flooding followed by freezing temperatures leaving the pitch unplayable, whilst Kirby's match at Bilston suffered a similar fate, so both sides will be well rested for Saturday's top of the table clash.

Nuneaton Town on Wednesday welcomed new striker Matthew Gardner and he is expected to go straight into the squad for Saturday's match, having seen Sahel Yessen return to the United States following his successful month with the club.

Kirby Muxloe are one of the oldest teams in the league, formed in 1910. They have played in Leicester and Leicestershire league's since their formation up until 2008 when they were founder members of the East Midlands Counties League. In that time they won the Leicestershire and Rutland Senior Cup in 2007, beating Ibstock United in the final.

Kirby won the inaugural season of the East Midlands Counties League and were promoted to the Midland Alliance at Step 5 of non-league, which later became the Midland League Premier Division.

Geographical changes to the league meant they were transferred to the United Counties League Premier Division in 2014, but they were relegated to Division 1 in 2019. They have remained at Step 6 ever since, being transferred back to the Midland League for the start of this season, after winning last season's Leicestershire and Rutland Senior Cup for a 2nd time.

Kirby Muxloe play at Ratby Lane next to the cricket club, where they have played since 1972. They rebuilt the ground to house a 3G pitch just a couple of years ago.

Nuneaton Town sit top of the table with 20 wins, 6 draws and 2 defeats, and 66 points from 28 games. Kirby Muxloe go into the game 3rd with 19 wins, 2 draws and 6 defeats, and 59 points from 27 games.

A win for Nuneaton on Saturday would push them closer to the league title, so your support is crucial!
