Match Preview: Gresley Rovers (a), Tues 23/07, 19:45

Date: Tuesday 23rd July 2024
Opponent: Gresley Rovers
Time: 19:45

Venue: The Moat Ground, Moat Street, Church Gresley, Derbyshire, DE11 9RE

Our 7th pre-season game takes them a few miles north to old Nuneaton Borough league foes Gresley Rovers.

'The Moatmen' were relegated from the Northern Premier League Division 1 Midlands on the final day of last season having been fighting with Rugby Town and AFC Rushden & Diamonds to stay up. Ultimately it was Rugby who survived. Gresley will play in the United Counties Premier Division North (Step 5) this upcoming season.

Although this will of course be Town’s first visit to the Moat Ground, fans will remember Nuneaton Borough and Gresley last meeting competitively in a Southern League Cup fixture at Manor Park in December 2003. Boros last visit to the Moat Ground was back in December 1998, a 3-0 league win which contributed to Boro's last league title win in 1999 with goals from Thomas, Muir and an own goal. Nuneaton Town will be hoping that 26 years later a visit to Gresley will precede another league title.

Directions from Nuneaton town centre:

Take the A444 north towards Burton all the way from Nuneaton to Swadlincote (crossing the M42 on the way). After a duel carriageway you will come to a large roundabout. Take the 3rd exit signposted Castle Gresley onto Castle Road. At the first roundabout take the 2nd exit to stay on Castle Road, then the 2nd exit at the next roundabout onto Church Street. After the row of shops on the left and the school on the right, turn left onto School Street and left again onto Moat Street. The ground will be visible ahead of you as you turn into Moat Street.

(Total journey: 20 miles, approx 35 mins)

Public transport to the ground is available via a train to Tamworth, another to Burton and then bus 21E to Gresley, but no public transport is available after the match.
