Treasurer’s Report - March 2025
CHAMPIONS!
On the 22nd March 2025, in a torrential downpour, Nuneaton Town were confirmed champions of the Midland Football League Division 1, securing promotion to Step 5 of the non-league football pyramid. What an amazing achievement, given that fact that this time last season we had no club to watch at all. Very well done to everyone – players, officials, volunteers and last and last but not least, you the supporters!
We had three home games and two away games during March, starting with a trip to Leicester to Allexton and New Parks, followed by two home games against Coton Green and Stapenhill with attendances of 561 and 491 respectively. Then came the trip to Kirby Muxloe, already historic as the birthplace of several Boro greats, where 500+ from Nuneaton in an attendance of over 800 saw history made following a great win and an unexpected slip-up by Heather St Johns. Finally, the 0-0 draw on last Saturday of the month at home to Leicester St Andrews in front of the highest attendance of the season so far (857) bringing the average attendance for the month to 636.
Total turnover for the month, was £11,748 (last month £8,306) thanks to the three home games and the uptick in the level of attendance. Merchandise sales, including commission from Sporting Touch for the clubs’ on-line store, came in at £1,472, which brings the total retail value of sales for the year so far just short of £25,000, which is truly staggering! Another significant contributor continues to be Andy Pace and his sales of old programmes in the bar. The Nuneaton Town Supporters’ Co-op were able to contribute £1,250 from the 200 club proceeds, which is yet another increase from last month due to increase participation. There’s also a “super draw” coming up in June, so look out for details of this, and if you haven’t signed up yet, the link is here.
Another brilliant piece of news is that we have already secured over £8,000 of sponsorship and advertising income for next season – almost 20% of our sponsorship and advertising budget for the season. These figures won’t show in this month’s accounts, or even this financial year (which ends in June for us), as it’s “income in advance”. Well, done to Commercial Manager Lee Davies for hitting the ground running along with valuable help of the media team, and thanks to all the fantastic local businesses for continuing to support the club.
In terms of expenditure, we incurred £12,245 in direct costs during March, which covered:
FIVE playing weeks’ players and coaches’ remuneration,
Matchday ground hire
Training facility hire.
Physio fees and equipment costs
Matchday security and safety costs
Matchday officials’ fees and expenses
Post-match catering costs (required by the league)
Merchandise cost of sales
Programme printing and matchday fundraising ticket costs.
One-off costs, totalling £1,200.
We also incurred administrative expenses of £448, which included:
Website hosting costs
Subscription to the club’s finance system (Xero)
Payroll processing costs
Printing and stationery costs
Transaction fees charged by payment platforms (SumUp & Stripe)
Even though we had higher playing costs this month, we achieved an underlying surplus (profit) of £722, however after one-off costs the deficit (loss) for the month was £748. The year-to-date operating surplus now stands at a brilliant £42,736 – almost as much as an achievement off the pitch as the players have achieved on it.
With £4,600 committed to the feasibility study, £35,459 remains available for the purposes of “Back to Nuneaton” and £2,678 is held in reserve.
What to expect in April
What a month April will be! Only two league games, one away at Saffron Dynamo and then the final league game of the season at home to Smethwick Rangers. Needless to say, a number of things are planned to make this a day of celebration, culminating in post-match festivities including the presentation of the league trophy. This will be a day not to be missed, and a bumper attendance is expected. We are offering free attendance to under 16 (accompanied by an adult) and for 16–18-year-olds in Sixth Form or Further Education – please show you college ID or recent correspondence from your college/Sixth Form at the Turnstiles for free admission.
We also have a cup final! The 30th of April sees us take on Cradley Town at the Bescot Stadium, home of Walsall FC in the BCFA Midweek Floodlight Challenge Cup final. It is possible to pay by card on the turnstile, but it’s recommended to buy a ticket in advance here. This could be one of the largest “away” attendances for a Nuneaton game in over a decade and will be a great occasion, no matter the result.
Predicting the surplus for April will be tricky, there are three game weeks of cost, but only one home game. However, that home game is like no other we could well see one of the highest attendances at Step 6 anywhere in the country this season. We are also due a small proportion of the gate receipts from the final but may not know the exact amount in time to include in the April accounts.
