Town Triumph Over Swans - Match Report and Reaction: Stapenhill 1 - NTFC 3

By Owen Jephcote

Nuneaton Town made the trip over to Stapenhill for their first encounter of the season with the Town faithful travelling in numbers continuing their great support.

The early goings of the game were rather end to end with both keepers being called into action. Town goalkeeper Matt Hill was the first to get his hands on the ball with a comfortable save stopping a long throw-in attempt in its tracks.

Nuneaton tested Paul Hollis for the first time after a quarter of an hour with Dec Somel heading straight at the number one from close range before Trevor Edwards went close at the back stick on the half hour mark.

The visitors ended the half strongly with an attempt from Louis Baker from outside the box being hit straight at the keeper before a well worked move from James Harrison and Baker failed to materialise into a goal.

Half Time 0-0

Minutes into the second half, Baker would put the away side in front turning the ball home at the back post.

Just twelve minutes later, the home side would draw level after a mix up at the back allowed Oliver Roome to continue his scoring form on the hour mark.

The game wasn’t level for long however as a couple of minutes later, Callum Carsley almost perfectly reenacted a Steve Bruce-style header to put the Town back ahead after a perfectly weighted Aaron Williams cross.

With just 15 minutes to go, Louis Baker secured all three points volleying the ball home from a Trevor Edwards cross.

The action didn’t stop there however as the Swans number 12 Chadwick was shown a straight red in the 94th minute after a high footed tackle.

REACTION BY TREVOR EDWARDS:

3-1 win, big bounce back after the last game. What are your thoughts on today's game?

"We knew today we had to come and put in a performance, the pitch wasn't fantastic today and that has caught us out a few times this season. Performance was very good, the way that we dominated the game and played the conditions. Great 3 points."

How much did it benefit the team having the likes of Cody Mullan and Louis Baker back?

"It is a better squad with those players in, it feels like we played 35-40 games already and having those players come in brings us some freshness. Louis gave us a but of legs up front and something different. Cody did extremely well in the middle, but I think Corey was the standout today."
