Nuneaton Town FC launches pre-season crowdfunder

The new club is appealing to supporters, and the wider community, to help meet the costs involved in starting our football club again from scratch for the first time since 1889.

Whilst our progress over the last few months has been amazing, we want to raise some additional funds to help with off-the-pitch start-up costs as we prepare for our first season in the Midland Football League Division One (step 6 in the National League System).

Former Nuneaton Borough managers and players, and one of Nuneaton’s most famous sons, are backing the club. We will be sharing their messages of support with you all over the next few weeks.

With hard work and your support, we are determined to build the new club into something the town can be truly proud of.

Why is the new club different?

Nuneaton Town FC is a community-focused club and part- owned by its fans through the Supporters’ Co-Operative.

The club is a Community Interest Company, so:

  • No shares or shareholders

  • No dividends paid to board members and no financial gain for board members

  • An asset lock, so the club cannot sell off any assets it comes to possess

  • All profit and surplus is reinvested into the club

  • The club board includes two supporter representatives from Nuneaton Borough Supporters’ Co-Operative

  • The club is committed to working for the community and being financially sustainable, which includes producing regular financial reports for transparency.

This new ownership structure, means sharing the responsibilities of running a football club and, as the Steering Group who formed Nuneaton Town FC highlighted at our open meeting in March, moving away from a funding model that relies solely on sponsorship and donations from the business community.

Why are we crowdfunding?

1) Setting up a new club involves lots of off-the-pitch upfront costs: kit, physio equipment, training venue hire, legal fees, hospitality, insurance, FA and League affiliation, and much more.

2) Without our own ground, we lose out on revenue streams usually generated by home games.

3) As a community-focused club, we want supporters and the wider community to be at the heart of everything we do and play a meaningful role in the club’s development.

What is our target?

The club’s business partners have kindly pledged an initial £6,000 to help with the costs of setting up the football club.

We would like to match this £6,000 figure before the season gets underway by asking for contributions from fans and others in the community who are able to give.

If we raise more than £6,000, the surplus will go towards the financial reserves needed to protect against income fluctuations during our first season and efforts to find a venue for home games in Nuneaton.

How can you get involved?

1) Make a pledge (and the sooner you do, the more momentum you help to generate).

2) Spread the word by sharing our crowdfunder on social media and with your friends and family.

3) Fundraise for us by undertaking a sponsored activity or event (get in touch if this is of interest!).

Who are we?

Nuneaton Town FC was officially formed in April 2024 by a Steering Group made up of fans and business partners that previously supported Nuneaton Borough FC, who withdrew from the Southern League in January 2024.

Nuneaton Borough Supporters’ Co-Operative is a community benefit society whose aim is to represent the views of Nuneaton Town supporters and to play an active role in decision-making and the running of the football club to ensure that it has a sustainable ethos centred around the local community.

Our community impact so far includes forming a partnership with Nuneaton Borough Juniors and Ladies FC, leading to us achieving 2-star accreditation with England Football (which replaces the FA Charter Standard) and supporting Nuneaton Carnival. We look forward to increasing our community initiatives as the club grows and develops.

We hope that you are able to support us as we strive to build a football club that the town can be proud of.
