The 'Saff' were formed in 1963, playing matches on the Saffron Lane Rec, and were named after it. They moved to Cambridge Road in Cosby in 1976 where they still play. They won promotion to the United Counties League in 2019 having finished runners up in the Leicestershire Senior League. They are one of several Leicestershire based teams who have been switched sideways to the Midland Football League Division 1 this season.

Saffron are one of three Leicestershire based teams called Dynamo, Loughborough and Shepshed being the others. Loughborough Dynamo were named after Dynamo Moskow, who visited England for a friendly against Wolves in 1955, and this likely inspired Saffron's name.
