Nuneaton Town are on the road again Tuesday night against Gornal Athletic. Town visited Garden Walk a few weeks ago, but a heavy thunderstorm around 2pm soaked the pitch enough for the referee to deem it unplayable, so Tuesday is the second attempt at this match.
This is also the second played match in just 10 days between the two teams, and Gornal will become the second team Nuneaton have played both league games against. Nuneaton won the home game 2-0, with goals from Danico Johnson and James Harrison at the end of each half.
'The Peacocks' as Gornal are known formed in 1945 as Lower Gornal Athletic joining the Worcestershire combination and transferred to the West Midlands (Regional) League in 1963.
The 'Lower' was dropped in 1972. They have spent most of their history in the West Midlands (Regional) League apart from a few forays into the Midland Combination. Gornal were runners up in the West Midlands (Regional) League in 2023-24 and earned promotion to the Midland Football League Division 1 for this season.
Gornal go into the game 12th in the table with 7 wins, 2 draws and 8 defeats, and no win in 4, while Nuneaton Town sit 6th with 10 wins, 4 draws and 1 defeat, and on a 10 match unbeaten run.
