Nuneaton Town continue their tricky February with a trip to Fazeley near Tamworth for a clash with title rivals Coton Green.
This is, if it goes ahead at the third attempt, after postponements for a waterlogged pitch, then a frozen pitch, a first ever meeting between Coton Green and Nuneaton Borough or Town, and a tough fixture, with Nuneaton top of the table, and Coton Green third. Since the last postponement, Nuneaton Town have streaked clear at the top, opening a 10 point lead to second placed Heather St John's, and 11 to Coton Green in third, although both have a game in hand. Coton Green will need to win to realistically stay in the title race.
On Saturday Nuneaton Town swept aside in form AFC Bridgnorth 5-0, while Coton Green survived a late fightback from fellow borough team Nuneaton Griff, winning 2-1.
Coton Green were established in 1982 as a Sunday League team in the Tamworth and District Sunday League, becoming a Saturday team in 2004, joining the Midland Combination Division 3. They reached the Premier division in 2008, spending one season there before being relegated, and when the Midland League was formed in 2014 they were placed in Division 2. They returned to Step 6 for the 2022-23 season after finishing runners up to Cadbury Athletic in the 2021-22 season.
Coton Green have played at several grounds in their short time, playing at Whittington Barracks initially, then moving to Dosthill Park in 1988. They moved to their current site in 1993, becoming main tenants when Fazeley Swifts folded in 1995. Between 2008 and 2016 though they shared with Brereton Social until floodlights were installed at New Mill Lane, after which they returned to their current location.
Coton Green have traditionally played in red, but switched to a green kit for this season.
