On Saturday, Nuneaton Town FC head to Leicester to play Birstall United in the first fixture against each other in the Midland Football League Division One. However this is not the first time that both sides have played each other this season. Nuneaton Town beat Birstall 2-1 away in the MFL Cup 2nd round back in October thanks to goals from Louis Baker and James Harrison.

In the league, Nuneaton Town sit top and whilst Birstall are in 15th place. Over the past games, results have been a bit closer with Nuneaton Town in 7th place in the form guide with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat. Whereas Birstall are 10th in the 6-game form guide with 3 wins and 3 losses. This will be a tough test for Nuneaton as they look to remain top of the league.

Birstall United were established back in 1961 and initially played Sunday league football in the Leicestershire & District leagues. After three championship wins, they switched to Saturday football and competed int he Leicestershire Mutal League and also had a lot of success in the late 60's/early 70's. Birstall remained in the Leicestershire leagues until the 2016 when they were promoted into the East Midlands Counties League (now United Counties League), and at the start of this season transferred into the Midland Football League. Their best FA Vase performance came in the 1997/98 season when they reached the fourth round.

As our last fixture before Christmas, many fans will be getting in the festive spirit and wearing Christmas fancy dress. Feel free to join in!
